TOPIC

    You get an error saying there was a dial failure, and you should check http://support.macadvocacy.com for help.

DISCUSSION

    This means that the FaxCenter log reported a dial command error. This means one of a few things:

    1) FaxCenter was unable to dial out potentially because of one or more of what follows:

    * a bad phone cable
    * call waiting interrupted the dialing
    * message center interrupted the dialing
    * voice mail interrupted the dialing
    * long distance is not allowed or requires a special code
    * no dial tone found
    * you need to dial a 0/9 first

    2) FaxCenter successfully dialed out, but there was no answer on the other side, or the number dialed wasn't a good number ("were sorry, but your call..." voice).

    The best way to correct this issue is to turn on the modem speaker settings in the FaxCenter preferences. Once turned on, listen in. Note if it starts dialing, or if it never starts dialing. If it never starts dialing, you probably need to check the "Ignore Dial Tone" option in the FaxCenter preferences and give it another try. If it still doesn't start dialing, and you are sure you have a good phone cable, then please email ben@macadvocacy.com and let him know what you have found. You should get an answer back within a few hours, depending on the time of day.
